Inca Kola, Peru's Golden Soft Drink

The distinctive bright yellow soda is **Inca Kola**, Peru's extremely popular soft drink, often described as having a sweet, bubblegum or cream soda flavor. Created in 1935, its name and golden color evoke Inca heritage. It is so ingrained in Peruvian culture that it consistently outsells Coca-Cola, a rare feat internationally. Coca-Cola bought half the Inca Kola company in 1999, gaining distribution rights outside of Peru while the original Peruvian owners maintain control within the country. Often paired with savory Peruvian dishes, particularly *Cuy* (guinea pig) or Chinese-Peruvian *Chifa.*
